 Connecting Classrooms with Syria.

Our school was in the north Sunderland Redhill cluster of schools, which began working with six schools in Damascus & Homs on this British Council-funded project.

We were visited by Syrian teachers in October 2009 & at Easter 2010 four staff from our cluster of schools went to Damascus & Homs in Syria.

BBC Four put an article on their website about  our links with Syria.

On 30 March 2011 a group of Year 3 pupils made a presentation at a Connecting Classrooms conference in Newcastle. Go on Year 3 Problem-Solving Club in School Clubs to read a report.

Find out more about this project and read the BBC Four article by clicking here Connecting Classrooms.

Following a break in communications in May 2011 Links with the schools in Damascus and Homs were re-established in November 2011..

New joint activities are planned. One activity may involve a partner school in Finland. Pupils will write articles linked to sports & fitness. These will then be put into joint newsletters and posted on our school websites.

Older pupils in Year 10 at Monkwearmouth School in Sunderland have come into the project. They have been emailing students in the Syrian schools. An article on this work was written by one of their students for a local community magazine. Click on the Connecting Classrooms link above to read the article.
