Connecting Classrooms
Connecting Classrooms is a British Council global programme that creates partnerships between clusters of schools in the UK & around the world. These partnerships aim to bring an international dimension to young people's learning, to improve their knowledge & understanding of other cultures & prepare them for life & work as global citizens.
A cluster of four schools in Sunderland is linking with six schools in Damascus & Homs, in Syria. The schools in Sunderland already work together within the Extended Services cluster for the Redhill area of the city. The schools are: Grange Park Primary School, Red House Academy, Southwick Community Primary School & Willow Fields Community Primary School.
Staff from the Sunderland schools met four Syrian colleagues at a Contact Seminar in Leamington Spa on 17-19 October 2009. They began working together on their Project Plan for 2009-10. The Sunderland schools were visited by Syrian colleagues on 20-22 October. The photographs were taken on this visit & at the bottom of the page is a Word document containing a newspaper article about the visit.
